Flam was born from a very clear idea; we would not use any animal component in any of our shoes. What began as a dream has now become a reality, and not only that, we have also been an inspiration for new brands that have seen that a way of animal free products was possible.
Our goal is not only to make animal free products, but also to end the entire fashion industry that kills more than 60 million animals a year for its own profit.
Animals are a value in themselves and have the right to live without suffering. We turn away from any utilitarian conception of animals that the fashion industry has developed over the last 50 years.
Most of the leather comes from countries such as India and China, where animal welfare laws don’t exist. A PETA investigation discovered that in India workers break cows’ tails and rub chilli and tobacco in their eyes to force them to get up and walk, eventually dying of exhaustion on the way to the slaughterhouse.
Did you know that cows are extremely intelligent animals that develop complex relationships, perform difficult tasks and even mourn the death of their friends?
In the US, many of the millions of cows and other animals killed for their skin suffer from the horrors of industrial farms (stacking and extreme deprivation, as well as castration, marking, tail and horns cutting). In slaughterhouses, the necks of animals are routinely cut off and some are skinned and dismembered while they are still conscious.
For every pair of leather shoes you buy, you sentence an animal to a life of suffering.
